Design notes from Camper & Nicholson:
"The Nicholson 30 was designed by us  (Camper & Nicholsons) as a Half Tonner in 1972 as a development of the 9.5m Brigand which we had designed for C.I.M.A. in Italy and which had won the Middle Sea race.
The moulding was done by Robert Ives and the Fit Out carried out by Camper & Nicholsons at Gosport under the direction of Richard Bagnall. The first yacht, "FRACAS" was completed by her owner Jeremy Gilbert and the 2nd yacht, "ALYSINA" was completed by C&N for Sir Peter Johnson.   Hull No.27, "SANJOLA II" was campaigned hard by John Adams and Richard Bagnall, and No. 30, "CAPRICANTE" was owned and raced hard by Peter Barton, our company buyer.
In 1973 a Part Assembly and a complete yacht were shipped to Paul Tennyson’s Canadian Sailcraft yard, for series production over there.
63 yachts were completed in the U.K., 17 of them being completed by their owners from a Part Assembly kit. As this yacht was raced hard and competitively numerous modifications were made to the keel, rudder and rig both during production and as an after sales service.
Boats 1, 2, 3, 5 & 10 all had the Mk.1 Rig with the shorter mast. There were no changes to hull shape apart from a modification to the rudder skeg and in some cases its removal.

Somehow we ended up after a long spinnaker run, 1st at the first-mark. We could not believe our beginners luck but alas we were clueless upwind and went from 1st to mid fleet very very quickly.", 2020 April, from IOR, RORC & CCA Ocean Racing Classes Facebook, Aaron: "Late father had a Nic 30 called “Archatrob” K-3217. He found a one year old boat, never sailed in a warehouse in Yorkshire of all places. Nice boats but the mk1 versions had to have the skeg cut off and a lead shoe bolted to the underside of the keel. A sister ship called Sanjola(?) managed 5th at the worlds I think";
